Andres
Castillo Born in Pompayan Colombia, Andres started his guitar studies whiles he was in secondary school, through the teachings of his father. After receiving his high school diploma, hestudied music formally at the Centro de Orientacion Musical Cristancho in Bogota, Colombia. He studied solfeg and jazz theory with Mario Baracaldo. Finishing his studies at the Centro de Orientacion Musical, he continued later at the Universidad Javeriana. There he took classical guitar lessons with Carlos Posada andjazz theory with the saxophonist Antonio Arnedo. His studies incudes S.Bach choral works, theory and analysis, and is currently majoring in Jazz Gutar at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Castillo has won many scholarships for merit and exemplary guitar work uncluding scholarships from The University of Illinois at Chicago, The Chicago College of Performing Arts and DePaul University. He has performed with distinguished Colombian artists such as Franco de Vita and others. Enjoy Anres Castillo's music every Tuesday and Thursday night at Las Tablas Steak House.
Estampa Colombiana Dance Company In June of 1999, Estampa Colombiana was founded as a not-for-profit dance group committed to the promotion of Colmbiana culture through dance, literature and music. Through these mediums the company hopes to foster an understanding between the LAtin American culture and others belonging to North America. Focusing on the City of Chicago, Estampa Colombiana takes the rich history and pride of traditional folkloric music from five different regions of Colombia, and translates it into the works art that can be appreciated by not only the Colombian people, but everyone who has a thirst for new and exciing cultures. It is the goal of this dance company to increase the level of cultural awareness in our community, our city and the midwestern region of the United States, to have our spectators have our presentations with a feeling of exhilaration and increased knowledge of what it means to be Colombian. We hope our spectators see the positive impact of mestizo, Spanish and black culture on Colombian life. We also hope that our presentations willraise the bar of learning to an extent that people will have a need to visit new and exciting places. Our mission. Our Goals. Our Pride.
